Can’t believe how long it is since I’ve posted any nonsense about toast… Busy with lots of other things but I still love by toast for breakfast and supper and any other time I’m feeling a bit peckish.

Favourites (that’s right US cousins, there is a ‘u’ in favourites) at the moment are Hovis Seen Sensations and Hovis Rich and Roasted

They both make a fine toast – don’t need to much toasting either so I get my toast hit a few seconds quicker.

See, even the Hobbits love toast! I am re-reading the Lord of the RIngs books for the first time in over 20 years and was please to see a Toast reference!

At the end of the 14th or so paragraph the hobbits Merry and Pippin are hanging about at Isengard following the defeat of Sarumon by the Ents.

Pippin says

“A fire is handy. I will make you some toast. The bread is three or four days old, I am afraid”

Toast Poem

I came upon this poem that I wrote in the original (well maybe not quite original) version of ilovetoast.com. I used to run it as a forum and a couple of mad dudes came along and started posting lots of toast nonsense – MartianV and MavWayne I seem to recall were their logins.

“What’s your obsession with Toast,”
she asked as we sipped on our drinks in the bar.
“Its so tasty and versatile and healthy and sexy,
ummmm, sorry, I think I just took that too far.”

But out of this chat, a website was born,
I Love Toast was the name
Some others were thought of, there in the bar
but this stuck as a catchy domain.

So many years passed alone on the web,
with a rare visitor once in a while,
until April two thousand and seven,
the signups all came in a pile.

So I welcome you all from wherever you live
and for believing, like me, in this boast -
That whenever there is a space in your life,
you can always fill it with Toast

For those of you who don’t follow the show, the cyclon are referred to as Toasters – I guess its a derogatory term for the fact they are machines.

My missus likes her toast ‘well-fired’ bordering on burnt while I am the opposite – much rather have hot bread that is just getting a bit crispy.

Funny how we all have a preference – although seeing how I Love Toast, I will eat it no matter how it’s done

I didn’t really know what I wanted, and if I did, I wouldn’t have been able to tell anybody, ‘cos all I could do was gurgle. So I sat there in me highchair, thinking one day, looking at me tray and thinking what I’d give for a meal on there. So I started looking round to see what I could have. The upper crust was not for me,

I can’t think about it any more. I’ve got to go and have some, it’s no good. Here listen, I’m getting a bit browned off standing here. Me too. Shall we go and have some toast? Good idea. Why not? OK. I’ve got the grill on. Got any brown bread? Yeah! Have you got wholemeal bread? Wheatmeal bread? All sorts of toast. Let’s go… (Sounds like they then make some toast in the kitchen)
